Yes, next year there will be a 8 core or more CPU considering that the iPad Pro has a 8-core ARM cpu.

Future? Of course but that’s the future. Could be 3-4 years. An Intel/x86 one in the next year or so? Maybe not, unless we get a shock move to AMD.

If you’re waiting for ARM, then definitely. It’ll likely be 12 or more.

Any thoughts on the possibility of a 6 core MacBook Pro 13" in the future?

From Intel? You'd better stock up on liquid nitrogen.
From AMD? I guess Apple will also announce they're open sourcing MacOS, iOS, iPad OS, etc...
With ARM? I don't think it'll happen this year.

Likely, the next MacBook Pro 14" (I think it'll have to be 14") will have a primary 8-core ARM chip taking over for T2 and a low-power Intel x86 dual-core chip to handle legacy stuff. That way, Apple can be lazy and we'll still technically have full backwards-compatibility. In fact, if Apple goes that route, they can even introduce that MacBook pretty soon...
