is it possible to transfer files between 2 computers using firewire 6pin to 6pin?

i want to use my pb as a hardrive to transfer files with the macs at school

Target mode. Reboot the PB holding down the "t" key and it will act just like a FW drive.

Wonder if the Mactel books will have a USB version of this feature, since FW seems to be disappearing...

Dunno if its even possible. USB is dependent on the processor, so the computer in target mode may not have what it needs to effectively run USB this way. Though maybe they could build it into the firmware somehow.

Firewire can operate independently from the processor, which is why I think it works. But I don't know all the technical details.

And because the computer just sees the Firewire port as a network connection, more or less. fw0, just like ip0, etc.

On what is that conclusion based? Because the Nano is USB? :confused:

Better tell all the Digital Camcorder, PC motherboard and laptop makers that are including Firewire on most of their products...

I think although Apple has dropped Firewire support on all their iPods, They will keep Firewire because of digital video and hard drives.

Apple will continue to have FW.

Many x86 Mobos have it built in these days.
