Got 6 plus and when i turn it on its side the apps don't flip, do you have to set that up todo that?

Its supposed to be automatic. Restart it and try again

No, did you lock the screen orientation by clicking the icon in the slide up menu?

Okay then your issue is you have the zoom turned on. Settings-General-Accessibility-Zoom. Turn it off. In the ON mode the home screen cannot flip to horizontal mode.
