Greetings:

I recently purchased a iMAC after being tethered to the PC since 1982. I am pleasantly pleased with the exception of receiving picture files as attachments on emails. The only indication other than the context of the message speaking to a photograph attached is that there should be a picture is a square with a question mark in the center. Is this due to certain types of files not related to the Apple OS? If so, do I need to install some form of decoding software to allow these foreign files to be opened with the OS? Any remarks or advice would be most appreciated.

Ciao,

You could save the image and then see the "Get info" with cmd+i or using secondary mouse button, to tell us what file type the "picture" file is :)
