I keep cycling through adapters and can't get 60hz @ 4K on my MacBook Air 2019 in 1920x1080. I saw a thread on MacRumors that it would work over the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, but it does not. Confirmed my HDMI cable and monitor can handle 60hz. I also downloaded SwitchResX and 60hz only shows up under lower resolutions. Any fixes for existing adapter or recommend another USB-C hub to handle it?

bump, nobody has an adapter recommendation to get 4k 60hz on Macbook Air in extended mode?

@Fishrrman and @joevt I'm going to forget the hub and buy 2 separate tools:
1. Video cable to get 60hz @ 4k. I'm either going to get a Anker USB-C to HDMI dongle and use with my existing HDMI cable OR buy a Display Port to USB-C. Is one avenue better than the other given the below explanation on why the Apple adapter didn't work? Does this mean I can't also run another hub in the 2nd USB-C port to cover power and 2 USB ports for my camera and mouse because it will go over the four lanes of DisplayPort?

The MacBook Air 2019 is limited to DisplayPort 1.2 because it uses Intel UHD Graphics 617 (instead of AMD graphics or the newest Intel Ice Lake graphics). DisplayPort 1.2 allows 4K 60Hz with four lanes of DisplayPort but this adapter uses two of the four lanes for USB 3.0. The adapter supports 4K 60Hz only for computers that support DisplayPort 1.4. To achieve 4K 60Hz, it might use chroma sub sampling 4:2:2 with HBR3 (requires DisplayPort 1.4) or 4:2:0 (requires DisplayPort 1.4) with HBR2.
