I (accidently)managed to remove a dashboard widget from the dashboard and placed it on my desktop. Now I want to take it off the desktop but am unable to do it.

My system configuration is
Power Mac G5
PowerPC 970 (2.2)
10.4.11

Thanks for you help but there is another problem. The widget has become disabled i can't select it nor can i delete it. And also what is the standard way for removing widgets from the dashboard and placing it onto the desktop.

Thanks in Advance

Has Anyone Answered This Yet

I had the same problem. I didn't actually drag the widget out of Dashboard however. What I did do was run SOCKS (latest version as of this date) and restart. When the desktop came up a version of Yellow Pages Business from widgets was there and there does not seem to be a way to remove it...it does not show up when you look in Finder at the desktop but it is very much there and operational but you cannot remove it, hide it or take it off the desktop!

Thoughts anyone?

I am on a Mac Mini 2.16-Mac OS X Snow Leopard

How can I get rid of a widget?

I downloaded a widget that glitched upon opening, and now I can't get rid of it. I can't figure out how to remove it from my Dashboard. Anyone know how to help me?
Thanks.

Does opening the Terminal app and typing: "killall Dock" help at all? Just remove the quotes when you enter this text in the Terminal. Try maybe "killall Finder" too while you're at it.

These two commands will cause the Dock to relaunch and temporarily close Dashboard(until you invoke it) and also cause Finder to relaunch.

Also try going to yourusername/Library/Widgets/ and delete the widget you are having issues with - just drag it out to the Desktop or put in the Trash and then try putting it in Dashboard again if you really need this widget.

I figured out how in Mac OS 10.8

1. mouse over the widget.
2. press the 'Option' key, they you will see a close button 'X' appear on the left corner of the widget.
3. click 'X'.
