That date is a rumour going around in the thousands of comments on their blog, they have given no release date BECAUSE, for the iPhone 3G they set a release date and then had to work over the top to meet it - and also I think I read that they had to work over new years to get it out because they had set the deadline and felt they had to meet it.

Don't get too excited. The dev team only announced that they could use the exploit. A polished, distributable jailbreak is weeks or months away possibly, depending on when they can find a way to auto patch the iBSS with the redsn0w hack every time it boots.

warning: this is a noob question so dont get to angry lol. but after it is jailbroken does that mean i can go online download torrents for touch apps and games and just put them on my ipod touch without registering? i know that you get more utility out of a jailbroken touch then otherwise i was just wondering what are some of the advantages.

Yes, you can illegally download some apps. There are also free cydia apps which are legal to download.
