I'm trying to use Apple Mail with a Gmail IMAP account but I'm about to give up. I used exactly the same settings suggested on the gmail site but the service works very bad. Messages take forever to download, often I click on them and the preview window starts spinning. It also hangs frequently while synching or caching and I have to do a force quit.
Is somebody using this in a profitable way ? And if yes, how ???

Profitable, no. Reliable, yes.

My setup is (IMAP enabled in Gmail):
incoming: imap.gmail.com
user: <user>
pass: <pass>

outgoing: smtp.gmail.com

outgoing info:
default ports, Use SSL
Authentication: Password
user/pass..

Profitable, no. Reliable, yes.

English is not my language so I can make some confusion, but yes, I meant reliable...
However your setup looks like the standard one. I've just noticed that on Apple Support forums there are tons of users complaining, but I can't understand if a solution is available. Maybe switching to Thunderbird ? :-o

No Problem! Let me know if that setup helps you.

I should say that occasionally I see a timeout message from gmail but it doesn't really affect anything...
