View Options - Won't Stick

I've search on MR and in Google, and I can not find a definitive answer to my question.
I know I can't be the only one annoyed by this issue in Leopard.

Okay so here is the situation:

I set view option in folder A to LIST view.

goto subfolder B (from folder A -> B)

I set view option in folder B to ICON View.

Click BACK to folder A from B

NOW folder A is in ICON view when it was in LIST view.


I check the box (and uncheck and recheck) that says "Always open in _____ view"
It makes no difference, the view options for this won't stay the same.
In Tiger there was an option FOR THIS WINDOW ONLY, or FOR ALL WINDOWS.

Leopard removed that option and now all my folders are messed up.

Looking at it, mine does the same thing, I think it might be Leopard.

okay, I just checked with my friend that has a powerbook,
and he said (when I explained it to him) it would happen to him as well.

I can't believe I am the only person that is annoyed by this.

SO, is this a feature in leopard or a bug?
if it's not a feature then it bug's!

I think I need to bump this as I've recently switched to 10.5 and feel the same as the OP. Why is it so hard to set particular folders to a certain view and not have it affect finder's global settings?

Right now, if I want to set folder X to list view it goes something like this:
Current global/default view is 'Icons'
Open folder X, set global view to 'List'
Open view options, select 'Always open in List view'
Change global view back to 'Icons'

Okay. But the real silly thing is that when I'm in folder X, if I open one of the sub-directories within the folder and then hit the back button on the finder window, I'm looking at folder X in the global ('Icon') view!

What gives? Is this normal? Is there another, proper way to accomplish what I'm after?

I've had a problem for years getting my view preference to stick. Column view seems to randomly switch back to icon view from time to time for years now.

I'm having the same problems as well, it's beginning to annoy me a lot, never happened in Tiger.
