Central Cali
just wanted to know where all the hip hop fans are at!! I've been into the hip hop scene since 83 and currently listen to mostly nor cal artists but I don't limit myself there... I have a very extensive collection of artists from all over the states, I just have been really diggin what has been coming out of Northern California in the last couple of months. Anyone else into hip hop post some of your favorite artist of current days and what has been in your rotation lately. Currently I'm really liking the Newest release from Messy Marv, "Cake & Ice Cream, Vol. 2". Also have been playing Bueno "Maloof Money", PSD "A Star Iz Born", & Yay Boyz Present "Got Purp? Vol. 2"... How about ya'll???

Just came out of an ATCQ phase that I get into every few months. Lately I been listening mostly to Mos Def, Typical Cats, Eligh(of Living Legends), and MF Doom(though he's always on my playlists).

You guys ain't alone. I still love H.E.R too:D
Im counting down the days till the new MF DOOM (all caps, lol) album. I've got very little time for gun talk in hip-hop now, so its mostly cats like Lupe, Mos, Common, The legendary Roots Crew, Slum, Talib, MF DOOM, ATCQ and OutKast. You know, if they're original and have a message, then im feeling them.

I am pretty much into Kanye's songs lately. I like how upbeat and groovy his songs are. My ipod playlist is practically Kanye's songs. :)

Iller than theirs - Girl Song (feat. Scott Thorough)

Hieroglyphics - You never knew (Domino remix)

Soul Position - Hand me downs

Cannibal Ox - Atom

just a few good tracks..

Soul Position, Blueprint, Buck 65, Glue, Sage Francis, P.O.S, Atmosphere, Murs, Living Legends, Eyedea and Abilities and Doomtree are constantly in a mix playlist.

Glue is a really good hip hop group that is from Chicago / Cincinnati / New Hampshire. Huge recommendation and they are great guys.

WHOA, WHOA, WHOA.........I've been missing out......I never really spent much time on the site.....'cept to fix my Mac......but to chat with fellow Hip Hop heads out there is Definitely music to my ears.....(although I won't get into the hip hop vs rap debate....lol)

BUT talking about what hip hop is in my playlist?

Mos Def, Talib, The Legendary Roots Crew, Murs, J5, and of course Common. Common has some of the illest lyrics I ever heard.....

Anyone ever heard of Rasheda?? I guess she's the dirty south queen. I bought one of her albums and it's pretty good. She's worked with quite a few other rappers as well so the songs have a really cool sound.

Oh and one of her songs was in that Paul Blart movie. LOL

recently i keep bumping paper trail. i think i enjoy at least 10-11 songs on that cd, and that almost never happens unless it's a concept album.

i was a little upset that the rap grammy went to lil wayne though. tha carter iii was good/alright but definitely not better than paper trail, nas' "untitled", american gangster, or the cool. i think grammy voters were thinking "hmm, the youngins like lil wayne, mrs. officer has that cool and hip siren chorus, yup, got my vote".

daaaaaamn nice thread. i've been listenin to hip-hop for a long time. i've been in an old school phase lately, but i got the whole spectrum of hip-hop on my library.

as of lately:

mf doom (and associated acts like DangerDoom, Viktor Vaughn, etc)
mf grimm (actually just found out about him...he has a 3 CD album called American Hunger -- get it!)
ATCQ
grandmaster flash & the furious 5
common
AOTP
atmosphere
talib kweli (reflection eternal -- one of the greatest cds ever)
eric b and rakim

pete rock and cl smooth
rhymefest

thats just a few...

and if u like neosoul/motown type music...check out Raphael Saadiq...**** is sick.

I am not a big fan of Lil Wayne. His Carter 1 & 2 albums were good but Carter 3 got to be the same old stuff "I'm the best rapper alive". Gets annoying.

I actually though Tha Carter III was a great album. There were a few songs on there like Mrs. Officer and the like that weren't that great, but the rest I thought were very good. I have been also listening to lupe fiasco a little and he's really growing on me, pretty good stuff.

O, I forgot to mention Tech N9NE. I've only heard a few of their songs (Caribou Lou), but not bad.

I also like Girl Talk, it's interesting hearing all those songs mixed together.

Eh I haven't listened to wayne in a couple of months now, don't really plan to.

Anyone in here awaiting Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II? I guess it's supposed to come out towards the end of this month. Not getting my hopes up though.
