So you're saying it popped up randomly? Sorry, I'm finding this hard to believe, just seems very dodgy of O2/Apple to do that.

Yes, took it out of my pocket and it was showing that first screen, around ten minutes later the second popped up.

I am not yanking your chain, do you think I would post my name and links through to my twitter account if I was?

The more I think about apples actions here the more I am pissed that they are doing this

I meant no offense, its just the nature of this forum for people to post fake photos for whatever reason. I'll be sure to look out for it on my iPhone, thats really, really weird.

Do you have an O2 locked iphone on an O2 iphone plan?

I have a factory unlocked iphone on O2 simplicity so I guess they wont be checking mine. Wonder if it scans a piece of code, a piece of code we can change to say "Hi, go f$*& yourself"

Can't say I'm suprised. I was expecting Apple to do something to protect their App Store now that bootleg stores are popping up.

I have a contract iPhone, fully up to date software, not unlocked or jail-broken in any way.

Sneaky of them to do this on a product launch day, hoping it goes un-noticed in all the confusion.

Maybe one of your friends found out how to send "Flash Messages" to your phone.

This means they won't turn up in your inbox and you won't find out who it is from, it is much like the messages you recieve when you request your balance on a PAYG phone.

That's a pretty neat prank. I've gotta try that sometime.

To the OP: Don't worry, it's not O2.

My bet is that it's a friend or acquaintance of yours who knows that you have a jailbroken iPhone. He simply sent two flash SMSs in a (successful) attempt to scare you.

That would make me sleep soundly. Except I don't have a jail-broken iPhone.
As stated above I have a 100% legit, up to date iPhone.

I cant be the only person getting this message.
Surprised that there haven't been other postings.

And? It's still just a flash SMS. It's not O2, and there is no scanning of any sort going on.

It's just someone playing a prank on you. Relax. :)

You guys are really surprised about this? Come on. These jailbreak app stores are planning to sell apps like Apple does for the iPhone, do you honestly think that Apple is going to allow this??? I don't think so.

Apple has stated numerous times that they do not allow jailbreaking, that it voids your warranty and whatnot. If you choose to do it anyway, that's your problem, and you should be prepared for the consequences.

Solution: Don't jailbreak your phone. Then you have nothing to worry about.

Solution: Don't spread FUD. You might mislead some people who don't know any better.

Several Nokias have the capability to send flash SMSs built into their firmware. Other phones can do it with the help of third party software. There are also a bunch of commercial/online providers that will send flash SMSs to the destination of your choice.

And Eric8199... well... isn't this a bit awkward? ;)

:D:D:D:D:D

would love to know how to do this

Just found out how you do it:

*go then whatever text, but be careful as there is a character limit - if
you go over it goes as a text message.

**No space after go**

eg:

*goYour iPhone is now a brick

Only works from any O2 phone to an iPhone on any network.

Where exactly do you type this in?
