Hi, my cat sat on my keyboard today while my laptop was on and it switched off. Now I get as far as entering my password then it hangs for a few minutes then it returns to the login.

Any suggestions??

Possibly a hard drive problem. Put in the OS X install DVD and verify the disk.

I dont think there is a key stuck as it lets me type in the password ok before it hangs.

It doesnt do anything if I try to boot from the startup disk

Thanks for the suggestions

yes but if it is like the "end" key or something that doesnt prohibit input it could cause it to hang. but i like Stachelsk's suggestion try verifying the disk.

Then I'd have a dead cat and a dead computer, I'm here to make things better not worse :) but if i can borrow a gun and a spade later once my mac is fixed.

Thanks

wow if you dont like the cat why do you have it?

and does anyone remember in Booddock Saints when "Funny Man" Rocco shoots the cat. one of the best scenes in the movie.

really? we told you put the boot disk in and run a repair

And he said it didn't do anything when he put the disk in.

OP, what do you mean by it wasn't doing anything? Did the laptop start to read the disk and show the spinning ring, or is it just sitting there without an Apple logo or anything. I'm rather confused...

cat sat on keyboard - now no sound and odd doubling

My cat sat on my keyboard and now the sound does not work on my mac mini.
When I press the sound keys on the keyboard(s), as I tried both wired and bluetooth, the F10, F11, and F12, firstly are trying to run my expose', (which I have disabled from the moment I got this computer a year and half ago), and secondly, the volume control seems to have disappeared completely. No white dashed bar appears when any of those or any other key is pressed, nor does any sound come out other than when I mess with the universal access, which works fine in its usual annoying fashion.

Without the sarcasm about having my cat sit on the keyboard again and let's see what happens, does anyone know how to fix this, or can anyone tell me where I might find the way to reset those keys? Thank you so much and Happy Holidays to you all!! :)

I see you've revived an old post.. and this is the MacBook Pro forum.

Anyways back on topic, go to system preferences, then keyboard and check to see if the "Use all F1, F2, ec. keys as standard function keys" box is selected. It should not be selected.
