Something appears in my dock

I just purchased a MBP (prev gen) about a week ago, and I've been noticing something weird in the dock. This usually happens a few minutes after I boot the computer from being completely off, but what seems like an Application quickly shows in my dock and then disappears. It happens in a split second and there's not enough time to see what it is. It just opens and closes.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?

I haven't installed much on this MBP, just Office, Firefox, Visualhub, Mactracker and perian and flip4mac. I have all these Applications installed on my iMac and I have never seen this happen before.

Only things I have in there are Logitech Control Center for my mouse and iTuneshelper.

Actually, I don't think any icon appears at all. I was looking for it yesterday and saw nothing. I'm gonna try to take video of it.

Sounds like an app was doing a quick update check. Maybe Firefox or Office, or another program. I see this from time-to-time. You could try looking in Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console) after you see it happen and see if there are any entries there that could hint to what app it is.

I checked the console and sure enough at the time it happened something called LCCDaemon did what I think is an update check. The message reads: "Opening LCC update in automatic mode."

I looked up LCCDaemon and it is something related to my VX Nano.

Nice hint about the console though. I would have never thought of checking that. Thanks!

It certainly has it uses. Using that info you gave I found this thread that suggest the LCC might be Logitech Control Center.

I am so glad someone else has brought this up. I thought it was just my set up. I noticed this on my Macbook Air. I had to reformat it anyway so I ignored it but when I reformatted and installed OS X that little application keeps showing up in the dock for a split second then goes away. It appears intermittently right near the area where the dock separator is near Stacks.
I did manage to see it the other day, it was the iSync icon. It appears very quickly then goes away. Not sure why although I do have the computer set to auto sync for Mobile me.

did it look like a small blue globe with a little man behind and orange ribbon around it diagonally? this happened with mine recently. i thought it looked like Firefox icon so uninstalled firefox and folders. it didn't happen for a while after that. but it just happened again this morning.

i have seen a similar icon on one of the moderator's profiles on here. i checked all applications for similar icons and couldn't find any, even doing a finder search for all icons, it didn't show. my computer has been acting strangely as if i have a browser hijacker, since this started happening. safari keeps freezing and slowing, not refreshing, some pages blank etc. i repeatedly reset safari on every exit and sometimes empty cache. i have the latest 2010 MBP i5 with OSX10.6.3 and safari 5.0.3 i also have the latest ClamXav and so far no infections have ever shown up.

when it happened this morning, i closed down waited a minute then rebooted. it didn't recur. i went into console and compared the entries for 1st/2nd boot and two differences occured

boot 1 started with -

ps - the safari behaviour may be completely unrelated. the icon pops up exactly where HLdan's does but it isn't the iSync icon.

sorry, last reply - i also repair disc permissions regularly now.
