iMac 2009: Secondary monitor... DVI-> Mini DVI or DVI-> Mini Display Port?

When i want to connect an secondary monitor to my new 2009 imac do i need a DVI to Mini display port adapter or a DVI to Mini DVI adapter?

The new 2009 iMacs use mini DisplayPort.

Do you have the machine? You can just look on the back.

You want a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor if you want to connect any modern display to your new 2009 iMac.

What avihappy said. And just for future reference, be careful what direction you name your adapters, because you're really looking for

mini-dvi -> dvi (not dvi -> mini-dvi) or
mini-dp -> dvi (not dvi -> mini-dp).

Not sure if the ones in parentheses exist, but if they do, they're not the kind you want. Not being picky, just don't want you to accidentally order the wrong thing for yourself 🙂
