This seems like the same old question, but it's not.
When I 1st upgraded my MacBook White 2009, model4,1 from 1 GB ram to 6GB ram I noticed I still had a lot of pageouts. I followed some advice and used the terminal to enter "sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist"
It worked fine. But here's the weird part... I had to have my machine serviced and the nature of the problem meant that I had to reinstall OS X clean before bringing it in. I put the original ram back in, did a 'once write' secure erase and reinstalled OS X 10.6.6
When I received my machine back I put the 6Gb of ram back in and erased and reinstalled again. (Ya, I'm kind of anal about my installs) I was surprised to see that diskswap was still disabled.
How is that possible? Does it not reside in OS X itself? Did my terminal command switch off something at the hardware level?
It's all working fine, just curious.
UPDATE:
I stand corrected. I had Mail running in the background and now I see 66 pageouts and a 6MB swap file. Interesting because when I tested it I opened every program I could think of and had no pageouts.
It's all very confusing to a guy like me.
So there is no problem but I'm going to leave this post up in case anyone wants to ad or comment on it.
