My 1.5 year old 6S+ has 168 cycles on it and coconut battery shows it is at 57.3% capacity. I never bought an extended warranty because honestly in 10 years of owning Apple devices, I have never had anything fail including every iPhone since the original.

Does this count as a failure that Apple will cover for free? I have no problem paying, just wondering since it is low in cycles. It used to last me 3-4 days on one charge, now I'm charging it daily.

Well that's about as long as you can expect it to last, the 500 cycle bs is an optimal scenario.

But that doesn't make sense. If the average person charges their phone once per day, then the average phone would only last half a year.

You are waiting 2-3 days to charge your phone from near dead and that would be a full cycle. I charge every day from maybe 60-70% discharge which would only be a 1/3 cycle. It all equals out but I think it is best on the battery to charge every day rather than run to near dead before charging.

If you phone is out of warranty . . . . .

This is the first phone that I have ever had the battery go bad on. I still own and use a 3GS (as an XM radio with the XM Skydock), 5S, SE, 6+, 6S, Note 4, Note Edge, 3 S7 Edge phones, S8+, Note 5 and none of them have ever had battery problems. I bought my first cell phone in 1993 and have owned phones since then. That's excellent since I never charge them till they get down to 5%-10%. When I hear people say that you would never let them get below 40%, i have to laugh.

The 3GS still has 96% capacity after all these years with 368 cycles.

Everyone has their own theories about battery life. I still have my 6S+, I use as a spare. Battery is still great. Would not hurt to take it to Apple and let them run the diagnostic on it. These battery programs are priced to be erroneous.

No doubt. I made an appointment for tonight. Can't hurt.
