HI All -
I recently upgraded from a 5th Gen to 6th Gen Airport Extreme and have been having issues from day 1. I have a Mac Mini and MacBook Pro connecting via WIFI and a Mac Mini connected via Ethernet. Additionally, I have a 1 TB external drive hooked up to the AE as a Time Machine backup disk.
When I first powered on the new AE I was asked to import settings from the 5th Gen AE, which I did. I was then prompted to upgrade the firmware to 7.7.1 (which I believe was to address, in part, the issue I am having.) I then power-cycled my cable modem and restarted the router. I noticed that in Airport Utility, the router remained 'greyed out' as if the router was still rebooting, however I was able to access the internet via WIFI and Ethernet. I rebooted the router once again, and was then able to see it in Airport Utility. I then clicked on the router to view my settings and was prompted for my base station password. I entered, and chose "Save to Keychain". I then changed the routers name, and updated settings/rebooted again. It was there the larger issues began.
In Airport Utility, at times, the router will not show up, and at other times it will and when choosing the router I am prompted for my router password over and over (after it sits for a while stating 'reading router settings'). It seems when this occurs, power cycling the router is the only fix to stop this loop.
Another issue I am having is with Time Machine. At times, my 3 Macs will locate my external disk, and at times not. (Switching the external drive off then on remedies the missing drive, for a time.) When it does locate my external disk, it seems backing up is very very slow (slower than normal with my AE 5) and will at times stop completely.
The last issue I am having is with accessing the internet. Several times an hour, I will notice that a download will stall or a web page will not load (or if a Time Machine backup is running, it will stall - mentioned above.) During this the router remains green, and all lights on my cable modem are active. This happens with both the machines connected via WIFI and Ethernet.
A few things I've tried to correct the issues seems to help for a time, or not at all:
I've searched the forums and found a lot relating to the AE5, but not a lot with the 6 ... and from what I can tell, no one is having ALL of the issues at once I am describing.
I appreciate any help or input anyone can provide!

A few things I've tried to correct the issues seems to help for a time, or not at all:
- Power cycling the modem and/or router
- Factory resetting the router
- Switching external drive off/on
- Deleting keychain settings for the saved password(s)
- Walking away in frustration, and pouring myself a drink.
