iPad 6th gen re-batt?

was trying to DFU this but got back error 4301, which has a variety of possibilities.
If I could get past the DFU, I would DIY re-batt.
However, the Mac I used is a MBA 2013 OCLP'd to Sequoia.
All seemed to go well until the error.
the iPad cycled back to the start of DFU mode without accomplishing the task and gave the error.
Is the batt the most likely culprit?

At home I have an '18 i7 mini on Monterey and a newer lightning.
