Hi people, I have a 13" Aluminium Late 2008 Macbook (model A1278) which I use mainly for watching films in iTunes and gaming via Windows 7 on Bootcamp. I've recently become interested in surround sound and have been trying to work out how to use it with my setup. I can easily use the built in optical audio output that's integrated into the 3.5mm jack for outputting Dolby Digital Audio from movies and DVDs, as this kind of audio is precoded and requires no extra effort from the MacBook's (non 7.1/5.1) internal sound card. However, in order to game in 7.1/5.1 surround, I believe that an alternative external 7.1 card is needed in order to create a "live" surround audio track.
If anyone has knowledge in this field and would be willing to share with me, it would be greatly appreciated. Also could you suggest some good Mac OS X compatible 7.1/5.1 external sound cards that would serve my purpose?!?
P.S. I realise that there are other threads/posts out there that cover 7.1 external sound cards but I cannot tell which ones will work for me and so I have given my specific situation in the hope of a tailored answer.
