Hi

I'm trying to backup some files on to cd, but when I put my 700MB CDR in, it says its actual capacity is only 670MB. Why is this and how can I get the full 700MB? Thanks.

Jon

Thats called formatting... you have the same deal with hard drives or really any other optical media. A 60GB hard drive actually has about 56-57GB of usable space due to formatting.

because 1 megabyte isn't a 1000 kilobytes

1 megabyte = 1024 kilobytes

so 700MB becomes 683MB of real storage
(to get 683MB divide 700,000 by 1024)
