BOSE - Are they the best wireless speaker?

Your always gunna get BOSE haters.

I don't give a ****. I own companion 5's and I LOVE them. there the best things I have ever owned AND the look awesome :D Get them.

That makes it sound like they are only Bose compatible.

At that price point the AudioEngine's aren't that far out of range.

The AudioEngine W2 and then whatever you choose.

By the way, why must they be wirelessly.
 
it's for my pops...wanted to impress him, but also don't want to spend anything over $200(maybe $300 if they are legit) - he's kind of going through a wireless kick... :rolleyes:

..I agree with ya about limiting my options with just wireless, and the wireless quality technology doesn't seem there yet. - I am hoping someone will prove me wrong on that...

AudioEngine makes nice stuff, but at a price. The Wireless technology is definitely not fully there yet, largely because the market is not there fully yet...

yeah, they are a little more money than I wanted. I find it hard to believe they are a nicer quality speaker than BOSE. I think for the money, I would chose BOSE because my father would have some trust with that company.

...I am still looking for a nice set of wireless speakers for a PC.

Anymore suggestions from the Mac Folks?

I'm not a Bose hater or fanboy. They make some nice products (particularly in the area of Pro Audio), but generally speaking, their gear is too expensive. You can almost always find something just as good for less money or something as good or better for the same money. If you buy Bose, you likely won't be disappointed, but you can probably get something as good or better for the same money or less.

you're right - BOSE is always too expensive. I have the BOSE Quiet Comfort headphones, and it is by far the best headphones I have ever had, but they were extremely pricey($299) when I bought them way back when(and still are)...Although, I'm not dissapointed by the purchase. - Their quality is still real clean...I would easily put them up against any in the market, and I have had them for at least five years now. Basically, if I am spending the money for something that I normally wouldn't spend the money for - I want the product to be good and last...That is where BOSE sells me.

But, I am really interested in the best set of wireless PC speakers...BOSE or not, and do not want to be disappointed!

I have those too and totally agree with what you're saying.

For the OP.

I would recommend not going wireless and getting one of the following (in the order listed).

  1. HK Sticks (if you're cool with the style)
  2. Aego M
  3. AudioEngine A2
  4. Bose Companion 3

I mean, you won't find out unless you try. I agree with your analysis somewhat about Bose. It is not an awful product by any means (the in-ear headphone is an exception), but it's not a good purchase by most means. The AudioEngine's are going to sound better; but if you are buying wireless speakers; I don't think sound is necessarily the biggest concern. By the way, if they are for a notebook, you should note we haven't suggested BlueTooth speakers, so you are going to still have to have a receiver with a plug.
 
Does your dad have house speakers, or any powered speakers? If so, you may want to check out the Airport Express. It will stream music wirelessly over your network to those speakers and it's $100. Slightly cheaper, and on top of that, he can extend and strengthen his wireless range... And if he has an iphone/ipod touch, with the apple remote app, he can dj all around the house with it too. Just a thought...

never thought about that - I'm going to look it up. He has a new ThinkPad that I want to get speakers for....That is my first concern, but thanks shneady for the post.

You DO realize that in order to use those wireless BOSE speakers, you have to have a Lifestyle system or a 5.1 Acoustimass system, don't you?

By far the best speakers I have ever plugged into a mac .. the cost may seem a bit steep but when they are set up properly they sound amazing. Long time bose user, CineMate home theater speaker system, 301's. Bleh Bleh.. bose FTW :cool:
 
Bose makes decent speakers but they are priced too high for what they are worth. I am more of a headphone person and no one on Headfi recommends Bose. In a nutshell they color the sound too much.
