crazy heat on late 2008 unibody macbook pro

So, I decided to play my first game on my macbook pro, the sims 3. within minutes, i was getting temperatures of 180 degrees, and yet I could barely hear the fans. Wtf, are there no fans in this machine? Surely this can not be good for the lifespan of the computer, and it makes me feel uncomfortable playing games... Does anyone have any similar experiences or solutions? What's going on here?

I play various games on my MBP and I set mine on 5000 rpm when I'm gaming. I noticed that 4000 rpm doesn't quite cut it, and putting it on 6000 rpm (which I believe is the max) seems like overkill. Just my 2 cents.
