I called Apple yesterday because I was upset about not getting the price guarantee since I bought my 17 2.93 MBP a month ago.

I asked for the difference in cash. They said no. I asked for a refund then, they said ok, just pay restock fee. I said no, let me speak with manager.

They said manager not available. I said have one call me.

Later that day manager waives restock fee so I can return old one. I ordered the new one last night.

Here are the specs

3.06 processor
500GB drive 5400 rpm (I am swapping in by SSD)

The Lotto part relates to Apple's quality control. Especially concerning dead pixels and uneven backlighting.

Here's hoping the new one is a keeper.

You buy a computer and by doing so, risk having it being outdated the next day. That is owning a computer so don't take it out on Apple.

I am not taking it out on Apple. I am glad that I can return the old one.

They granted me two exceptions:

1) My purchase dated falls outside the 14 day return window.
2) My machine is BTO which Apple says is not returnable.

So my thread is about my appreciation for what they have done and to inform others who might be inclined to do the same thing.

The Lotto part relates to Apple's questionable quality control for the screens. You either get dead pixels, uneven backlighting, or both.

I have returned 1 already because of these. 2nd also had dead pixels and uneven backlighting but I figured with my luck I would just get another.

That's why I am hoping third times a charm and a keeper.

agreed,

thats the way it works...when you buy a truck...if one comes out they next day....can you drive it back on the lot for the new one..

NO

You already hit the lotto. You got them to do 2 things outside of their regular policy.
