Hey guys

So I'm thinking about getting a new 13" MacBook Pro (with 2.53ghz and a 9400M, 2gb) and id like to ask... would each of these cards be able to handle Wolrd of Warcraft and video rendering at the same time?

thanks

If you are going to be doing both video rendering and World of Warcraft at the same time, opt for the 9600M GT over the 9400M. While the 9400M can handle World of Warcraft and video rendering separately, together is a whole new story.

If cost is a problem, opt for a previous generation MacBook Pro with the 9600M GT.

Does anyone know the average fps when playing WoW on the MacBook Pro @ 1440 X 900 resolution with the 9400M?

No doubt 9600M. My Macbook Pro (late 08 unibody) can dip below 20fps (9600m) in Wintergrasp and in large raids (Ulduar as an example). TBH though I wouldn't have anything else running while your gaming as you will see a lot of slow down (well other than vent and the like).

World of Warcraft does not play very well on the 9400M. It is playable at low - medium settings in Vanilla WoW. In Northrend zones however (which are more detailed) your going to hit very very low FPS. The 9600GT isn't that much better but it can play the game at medium with acceptable FPS and graphical quality / draw distance.

9400M.

I have it.

WoW is at High settings.

Old world = average 30 FPS.
Outland = average 20-25 FPS.

Haven't been to Northrend yet.

Perfectly acceptable IMHO.

If you want to play a game you should:

a) Have a dedicated GPU
and
b) Run it in Windows. Graphics drivers for OS X are so poor that your performance will be significantly better when you do this, even if it is a properly ported OS X game like WoW.
