Is there a certain time of day that apple normally makes there iPhone software available?

Hopefully sometime early Thursday morning so it's ready when I get to work.

Or, alternatively, it might actually come out on the 17th which would make it Wednesday here.

Who knows?

I hope its early in the morning Wednesday so I can download it prior to going to work. I'm sure the servers will be swamped and it will probably take an hour or longer to download.

Didn't they release 2.0 shortly after midnight last year? I can't remember.

Nope they released it around the hours of 4-6 AM EST

I am 100% certain this is the case as I was up until 12 EST waiting for it, and 3 EST thinking they would wait until 12 PST

Hopefully its early morning before work. Just a tip guys, you will probably want to do it at the computer you use to sync your music and apps. If that's your home computer, don't wait to update at work.

Restoring from backup only applies the settings; it does not put your music and apps back on. You have to sync again after the update to get all of that back on the phone.

If the 2.0 update came out around 1 A.M (PST), then shouldn't the 3.0 update be here around midnight-2 A.M (PST).

That'd make it around 3-5 A.M EST.

Apple finally learned their lesson about prompting EVERY customer, both new and old, to hit their servers on the same day. Everything ground to a halt last year when all the existing owners tried to download 2.0 and all the new 3G owners tried to activate at the same time.

What do you mean "Finally".

It happened once, and they fixed it this year. It would be finally if it happened at least 3 times.

You act like they knew what was going to happen last year.

I know

4:31AM 17 seconds PST ;) I have a friend who knows a guy who works for the guy that is in charge of making it available.

Ok just having fun of course you can either play on Itunes hitting the button over and over or watch sites like this. as soon as somebody downloads it and probably play with it abet. they will post here I got it!

They will post when they are downloading it like last time, they won't wait until it is installed and have tried it.

Release Times

Does anyone know typically what time of day apple has been releasing the software updates? I'm wondering if I'll have time to update to 3.0 in the morning before work or if I'll have to suffer through my work day reading this forum about how you're all using push notifications and the like.

I just might have to work from home on Wednesday.

I'd be interested in knowing this as well. Since my iTunes library is on my work machine I may come into work early just to update to 3.0!

well last year, the 2.0 download link was leaked a couple days early, which could happen again...actually i wouldnt be surprised if this happened again.

but as for an official release, it varies. It shows up on different people's iTunes at different times...it could show up as early as midnight, or as late as like 10 am the next morning
