I ordered the 16gb 3GS from Apple for $400 early upgrade price and it has shipped already. I get an email yesterday that I am now eligible for the upgrading pricing and will be credited back $200.

I sold my 16gb 3g for $400. I figured I should get the 32gb since its only $300. Can I take it to the Apple store and do an exchange? Is there an open box fee?

Last year I did this with the 8 GB and went to the 16. It took a few tries to get it swapped but I was able to swap it out and get the 16 GB and just had to pay the difference, no open box fee or anything.

Don't open it. Take it back to an Apple store and exchange it and pay the difference.

Just called my local Apple store. They said I will not be able to do the exchange in store and I will have to call 1-800-MY-Apple to do the exchange.

They are liars. The iPhone is no different from any other product on the market. It's returnable and exchangeable.

I dont know. I decided just to keep the 16gb, but it would have been nice to be able to get the 32gb.
