Is it best to "top off" the battery or let it die before charging it?

I just got my Mac and im loving it. So far the battery is average. I do hear from people to let it cycle in order to get the best out of it. What is the best way to take care of the battery? Cuz on my Blackberry, i always charge it whenever i get the chance and people say that i should never run on empty with this phone's battery. Do i do the same on the Mac or is it best to let it get down to 5% before charging?

On the third paragraph down, they mention cycling it if you use your notebook as a desktop (i.e. never unplug it).
