okay guys im stuck on what i should buy im either going to get a MBP 15" no added feauters just upgraded hdd or a new dell xps laptop

im stuck i've been with pc and im just tired of it mostly and want to try something new...and Linux is probley the worst thing ever

1 ? what does SSD satnd for and what does it do

Definitely go for the MacBook Pro.

SSD is solid state drive.

Oh, and don't buy hard drives from Apple. Buy an SSD from Newegg and install it yourself. Of course, if you don't know what it is, do you even need it?

SSD = Solid State Drive I believe

It doesn't use the platter/head drive technology

At least that is how I understand it

if you ask this question on MACrumors chances are we will recommend the MBP....and guesswhat--i recommend the macbook pro. I just got the 13" and it's a sweet little machine.

Absolutely. That's a good course of action. You'll need to install OS X on it, of course, but once you do, you'll have your Apple hard drive as an external (for more space or backup) of sorts.

Just to "spell it out"(pun intended), the OP would have to get an external enclosure for the original hard drive to use it as an external drive - Dr.Pants recommends a Firewire interface.

Or just the interface guts (SATA to FireWire or SATA to USB). You can run a drive bare.

Done that before :D

Although it was a temporary solution... I just recommend enclosures as generally they'll protect the hard drive slightly better then just the drive itself.

what kind of hdd just like a reg 2.5 laptop hdd

Irk! Yes, methinks 2.5" is the form factor of the hard disc in the MBP. Just make sure it is a SATA drive.

Macbook Pro any day of the week, you will gradually start to hate windows more and more once you go mac

How can you guys blindly recommend a notebook without asking any questions?

What are you going to do with the notebook? How many years do you want to keep it? How much money do you have to spend? What country do you live in?

Have you factored in the cost of Final Cut Express? If it doesn't have to be portable, you may want to invest money in a Mini. That and iLife and iWork (research) also have a cost involved as well. OSX will come with whatever Apple product you buy directly; buying from a third party you will have to ask what specific system discs come with the system.

ya

Well i do need portability and dnt want just a macbook i want MBP y idk
FCE is not a necessity and im also getting it for free my uncle does hollywood stuff and hes giving it to me

Go with a new stock 15" model MacBook Pro. If you decide later on that you want a larger hard drive, then you can order one from NewEgg. There is no need to buy the hard drive now unless that you are absolutely sure that you need it right now.

You'll love the MacBook Pro. If possible, go to an Apple Store (or Best Buy) and try out the different models. Our opinions may be helpful, but your opinion matters most.

Well, its all up to you, anyways.

This is awesome. If you start doing films in FCE, hit him up for FCS sometime.

i dont have enough money right now

Well, if you don't need it now, then save up the pennies; I'm doing it for my own equipment. If you have random junk of your own lying around doing nothing, or you are replacing your normal computer with the MBP, you could always put it/stuff up on Craigslist...

If possible, go to an Apple Store (or Best Buy) and try out the different models. Our opinions may be helpful, but your opinion matters most.

This is wisdom. If you have the chance to play with the different models before you commit, you're getting ahead.

Any MacBook Pro made in the last 3 years would be great. I'm even selling a 15" version from 2.5 years ago for $800 that still has 5 months of the Apple warranty on it. Send me a PM if you're interested.
