So my iPhone 3G (black) has been babied since day one and no drops. Today I noticed that there is a small hairline fracture crack on the back of my phone. Is this a common problem? How much does it cost me to fix my back casing and whats the $ damage?

Does warranty cover it?

I reside in Canada.

Thanks!

Yes, if you are still under the warranty period (or extended AppleCare) then Apple will replace your iPhone. I'd go ahead and give them a call.

I have just noticed this myself with my 3G. I have always kept it in perfect shape in cases. When I went to clean the phone out of the case I noticed it.

I had this exact same thing happen the other day, took my black iphone 3g out of the case and noticed it had the same hairline cracks as I had seen on white versions. Called Apple and they sent me a replacement overnight for free!

Just an update, the Apple store gave me a replacement for free.
