What do all the icons mean?
what ones are there and can appear?

old thread, but new question....

What is the icon i have in my menubar on iOS4 that is a lock with a time machine type circular arrow round it???

quick question....with orientation lock, if I apply it, does it apply it to all applications?

say i am in messages which has orientation lock for portrait, and I go to safari and want to stay in portrait, will it work? or do I need to re-iniate it?

It's a system wide setting. Essentially it stops orientation data from being sent to apps. So if your app normally launches in landscape but you've previously locked the phone in portrait, it'll launch in landscape and not change until you disable the orientation lock.

This does not work for Mail; launch Mail, rotate to landscape, UI switches to landscape, exit Mail, set Orientation Lock, launch Mail, rotate to portrait, UI switches to portrait.

Works as expected here.. when you have the orientation lock it will only show in portrait mode

Btw, I was commenting on monksealpup's assertion that it is an orientation lock. As you have noted, it is actually a portrait orientation lock.

I'd prefer a landscape and portrait lock. And prefer landscape over portrait. Hate laying down and reading and then having some dang program that didn't do rotate right go all wacky.

For those trying to figure out how to "Unlock iPhone screen rotation". With IOS4 they gave us quick access to the iPod controls and also Screen orientation lock.

This is a "setting" that is NOT found in the iPhone "Settings" app! Anyway I've been trying to find it for a couple weeks now. Seems like it could be 'repeated' in the settings app, so it would be easier to find.

Thanks BHP41!
-doubleclick the 'home' button,
-slide all the icons to the right (and look on the left side)

You will see the screen lock icon which will toggle your 'screen orientation lock' to 'off'.
