hi guys
recently purchased a mbp 13" 2.26 ..trying to upgrade the ram to 4GB and the Hard Drive to 320 GB, could you please get me a link to these ?
thank you

I just put 4gb of crucial ram and a WD blue scorpion HD 320gb in mine about 3 days ago! All is fantastic! Got them from newegg for about 117 with shipping.

Either go with Western Digital Scorpio BLACK (7200 RPM) 320GB or Western Digital Scorpio BLUE (5400) 500Gb

Scorpio Blue 320 will be too slow, spend the extra 20 bucks.

Blue Black performance is the same only for the large 500GB Blue models

I recommend springing for the Blue 500 GB 5400

Ok, so which one is the best ? 320 one ?

Black 320

or

Blue 500

Equivalent speed.

Me ... I decided to go with the 17" instead of the 13. I did, however ,do extensive research on the 13" HD upgrade. My final decision was to go with the Western Digital Scorpio BLUE 500 GB.

People were reporting vibration, noise and lower battery life with the 7200 RPM drives.

Your call ...

Amazon has the Black 320 for USD 80 and the Blue 500 for USD 95. I'd go with the larger BLUE

ok, so you are saying 5400 are better ? are those alot slower than 7200 ?

I just added a WD 500g Scorpio Blue and 4g Crucial RAM from newegg to my new 13" MBP.

Just under $150 shipped for both. :)

I went with the 500 GB 5400 Blue as well after researching and reading the reviews

can you get me a link of that please ?
so there is not like a significant difference in the speed comparing to the 7200s ?
what about the one that already came with my macbook ? is it faster ?

The one that came stock is DEFINITELY slower.

I might be wrong but my research showed that the large drives (500GB) have the same speed as the faster ones. Something to do with platters being closer.

In general, there will be a difference in speed between 5400/7200 RMP drives. In this particular case, the 500GB Blue is equivalent to the 320GB Black.

Replace the stock drive with a 500GB Scorpio Blue, keep the stock as an external in a FW enclosure and you're good to go

what about this one ? is it a good HDD as well ? faster than the one i have ?

In my opinion you don't want the 320 GB 5400

You want either the 320 GB 7200 Black or the 500 GB 5400 Blue

That is... if you are looking for the best performance

Ok 320 gb 7200 it is ..
another question, do i really need to upgrade my ram to 4gb as well ? to get a higher speed ? or just stay with the one i have ?

Can I make a recommendation? I'm not sure what your budget is but 15 bucks shouldn't kill you. Go with the 500GB 5400 drive. Vibration/noise will be less and battery life will go up by 15 mins.

RAM depends on your typical usage. You could probably get away by postponing it for 6 months.

Depends on what you are doing
Many will tell you the best test for whether you need more RAM is your page outs

You will find a good explanation about "page outs" here

You can find your "page outs" by going using the Activity Monitor found in your Utilities Folder (use the System Memory tab).

For me... I think RAM is cheap enough to warrant the upgrade

And I agree with eVolcre, spring for the 500 GB Blue... you won't regret it

I would just like to state for the record that MACDAWG and eVolcre are two separate members apparently posting the same info at the same time ... :)
