I find my Cinema Display too silent.

Can anyone recommend decent speakers for a Mac Pro?

I'd prefer USB speakers that also draw power from USB as I wouldn't want more cables than strictly necessary.

Any ideas?

(Price range: around 100 euros, but I'd pay whatever it takes.)

I use the the Harmon Kardon SoundSticks II
They aren't USB, but they sound great

again, not USB (I think you'll struggle to find a good set of speakers that can take power from usb, let alone connect through it), but I can thoroughly recommend the creative T20 for great sound and value for money!

Check out BOSE, uses USB and may be in your price range due to a strong Euro. 🙂

Hey, they have a specific Ireland site!

And there is a "BOSE Experience Center" (sic) located in Dundrum Town Centre. That's just between my office and my house.

Good tip! Thanks. I'll go there and ask them what I should buy.

They seem to have a problem with showing their prices.

Oh sorry, I believe they are ~$3,400 a pair.

They sell them on Amazon, if I recall correctly...be cautious though - they are priced as 'each' on Amazon 🙂

Thanks, not quite what I am looking for.

The 24" Cinema Display is exactly the right size for my living room and I wouldn't want speakers that can fill a much larger room.

I think I want something in the 100-500 euro range.

I'm laughing now because I now see in your original post you said ~100E

I am very flexible.

I wouldn't want to spend more than around 100 Euros for a problem that should have been solved by what I already bought. (My iMac was loud enough, why isn't a Mac Pro with Cinema Display?)

But I would be willing to spend up to around 500 Euros for speakers that are actually better than what my iMac had to offer.

I was very happy with the sound quality and volume of the iMac. With the Cinema Display I am not so happy.

No no, not that you only want to spend 100 Euros, but that I suggest $3,400 speakers for someone who explicitly said they only wanted to spend 100 Euros. i.e. I'm a moron.

These are just awesome speakers. They come highly recommended from me. I've recommended them to others, too, and they've always loved them and been pleasantly surprised by the sounds they can produce.

I've heard good things about Altec Lansing expressionist BASS speakers. I've actually used them once and they get quite loud. I couldn't crank it up to max and test the bass in the Apple Store. I didn't want to blow out the Apple Store. 🙂
