Wonder if I can replace the stock drive with an ssd or 500gb 7200rpm hd and have no problems? Is it possible? And how would one go about doing it?

Yeah, I was waiting until these showed up to make my purchase. I am a college student and I think I'll still go ahead and get the education price and get the free ipod.

Um, you can't get the education discount or the free iPod deal with refurbished Macs. Refurbs are already a good deal.

Yes you can replace it any other SATA hard drive or SSD.
But wasn't there a problem with the 1.7 firmware update (1.5 > 3.0)? People had the spinning beachball issue when they replaced/upgraded their stock hd.

wow, $999

i wonder how much they are after the next update. now it's ~15% off. after the next update it's usually 30-40% off. that would be then 800-900 bucks.

All gone for today :(

How often do they update the stuff in the refurb store? $999 is a nice price, and probably the same I would pay if I bought through the education store with the free ipod and sold the ipod, so I'd rather cut out that middleman and just get it for the $999.

You get the 9600M GT and the new battery technology if that's your desire.

Personally the previous revision with the ExpressCard slot is a better choice.

I agree. I just purchased the $1449 refurb that comes the 9600 with 512mb and the expresscard slot and 320 gb HDD. I can do without the extra battery life and this deal was too good to pass up.

I've got my eye on that one too! Please post your thoughts after you receive it! :)

Not a refurb, but I got one brand-new that was on firesale @ MacConnection less than three weeks ago for a little under $1600 total (no shipping/tax!)

Definitely get it :)

Correct but you can get the new one for $1099 (education price) AND the free ipod :)
you save say $50 or so(not counting ebay or paypal fees for selling). Plus you pay less tax on 999 than 1099+229.

Plus, if you can wait, if you want to buy the refurb, wait till SL comes out so you don't have to pay the upgrade fee :p
