I heard that the new update [3.1] is coming out in September
you guys think thats about right?
After you upgraded to 3.0.1 via iTunes or direct link from here, then you run redsn0w with 3.0 firmware and following the direction, not 3.0.1.
Try downloading it using Firefox.
I downloaded through Safari and only got folders without an .ipsw file.
I downloaded through Firefox and it says the .ipsw file is unrecognizable.
I am trying to use Redsn0w on a 3G updated with 3.0.1 already. Im using OSX.
any other suggestions, I can't seem to get it to work?

ok, lets see if I understand
We have the iPhone (2G/3G/3GS) with the 3.0OS right now.
So we Download The 3.0.1 Update From here (or from iTunes)
We Update to the 3.0.1 via iTunes.
Then we Run Redsnow with the OLD 3.0 ispw not with the 3.0.1 posted here?
is that right? cause thats what I understand you said!?...

I'm a bit confused. Why would we do this if we don't even know If 3.1 can be jailbroken yet? I thought we AREN'T supposed to update to 3.1 because it changes something that can't be changed back? I remember reading EVERYWHERE not to update to 3.1.

This is 3.0.1 not 3.1
Nothing major in regards of jailbreaking is changed to the OS so its still safe for the moment.

No, you already updated to 3.0.1 thru itunes.
It doesnt matter that you're pointing redsnow to the 3.0 file, its just jailbreaking the iphone but not putting back on the 3.0 software. Its just uses it as a guide for example.

i have unlocked and JB'ed 2 1.1.4 phones no problem. One with the earlier Ziphone package, next with Pwange tool..
Current phone. G2, 2.2.1 stuck in emergency call mode.
I used the same restore file for my 1.1.4, now I know that was wrong. However, I do not know what to do from here. 3.0 or 3.0.1? I can not update with iTunes. Plus where do I find these files that are not folders? Lastly, I am using an American phone with a Norwegian sim, do I need the sim in the phone or can i do this without a sim. Im asking because it says i need to deactivate the sim code, which I am unable to. I need a walk through alike a 10 year old, sadly enough. thanks kindly for your time!

Im running into the same problem. I downloaded redsnow (I think) and downloaded the 3.0.1 IPSW in the above link and when I tried opening it when I started redsnow it wouldnt recognize the ipsw, And Im running firefox.
Can any one walk me through this like Im a 6 yr old?

Ok, got the 3.0 firmware and got it to work, but when I get to the waiting to reboot phase, it either stays there, or it reboots and the screen never goes white or the little ramdisk or whatever screen never shows up and thats as far as it goes, an hour after that happened I tried seeing what happened and it was at the emergency call screen.
Any ideas?

i've DLed the 3.0.1 FW listed in the first post. i have the 3Gs with 3.0 right now. how do i update it to the 3.0.1 through itune?
i tried putting it into DFU mode where itune tells me that it has to be restored later on to use. then i hold shift + restore key to load the 3.0.1 file, but it tells me it's not compatiable. even when i'm not in DFU mode, i hold shift + restore and try to load the 3.0.1, it also say it's not compatiable.
also, i tried holding shift + check for update and then open the 3.0.1 FW and itune still tells me that it's not compatiable.
can someone show me how to update it? thanks.

I can't get 3.0.1 on it now so everything I try won't JB it. Help Please!
When I run Redsnow it looks like everything works. You can see the harddrive picture thing on the iphone then it says jailbreaking. Once it finishes it's just back to square one...not JB
