Old Sim Card with Contacts: place in iPhone Transfer Contacts?

doing a search on MR I just see Old iphone to new iphone sim card answers....

can i put my old sim card with my contacts into my iphone and transfer the contacts via settings >> "imports SIM contacts" ?

with the old sim card will I be able to get to the home screen to get into the settings? i don't want to screw something up on the iphone....

your fine did exactly that with my old sims card even if the sims is acctive it won't mess anything up.

yea i did that with my old t mobile sim when i got my iphone even tho the phone wasnt unlocked

what program on my Mac do i use to edit the names and numbers? they get synced to my itunes now how can i edit them on the computer?
