I am running Mac OS X, Version 10.4.11 and many of my applications are not working.

A brief list of the applications not working are:
Safari, ichat, itunes, software update, downloads, mail, and probably others I don't know about yet.

I have been using Firefox and I just updated it, and now these applications aren't working. I have gone online to the apple website, but can't get the updates to open once they have been downloaded. Also, my Firefox has been crashing on specific websites (facebook and google).

I switched to a Mac because I heard there were fewer problems with them and the few problems that you encountered would be easier to fix than with Windows.

Can anyone help me?

Try reinstalling the OS.

Just because Macs are easier to use doesn't mean they can't have problems. All technology can fail, PCs just fail significantly more than Macs.
