One of the new additions to iTunes is said to include Blu-ray support which lines up nicely with a recent Apple Insider report about Apple integrating Blu-ray into their new iMac line-up. Something else that will most likely make a bunch of people happy is that we’ve been told iTunes 9 will finally include the ability to visually organize and arrange your iPhone and iPod touch applications. Something that wasn’t so clearly described was some kind of Twitter/Facebook/Last.fm integration. Maybe broadcasting what song you’re playing to your friends.

That's nice. I don't particularly care about Blu-Ray, but other people might. The app organisation is great.

Yet I'm still finding it hard to understand why iTunes 8 is so insanely slow at times. Why does scrolling through some tens of apps bring it to its knees? I just can't use my scroll wheel, because there is just no scrolling feedback. It takes some of a second and then scrolls down (without an animation). It takes two seconds to open my Movies pane. Ugh.

So...iTunes 9 is coming for real at the iPod show? :p

I wonder if they rewrote it? iTunes could probably use it. It's one of the last Carbon holdouts of the built-in apps. The Snow Leopard page says it's one of only 4 built-in apps that aren't 64bit. Of note...two of the others were DVD player and Front Row. Wonder if Apple is holding back the redo's of all these for this conference?

If iTunes plays back Blu-Ray discs, does that mean Apple's long-term plans are to merge the functions of DVD Player into iTunes?

What would they do for the Windows version? I don't think Apple wants to provide Blu-Ray playback for everyone...

There is already a reference to Blu-ray in iTunes 8.
