Any clue what it is? I turned off all my startup items and it still shows up..

Any help would be great. Thanks! :D

That would be the icon for when you have a 3G card connected to your Mac. Normally that wouldn't be there unless you were connected to the cell network. To get rid of it, just hold down the command key while dragging the icon out of the menu bar.

Whats in your LaunchDaemons / LaunchAgents folders ?

i'm sorry where do i find this?

it keeps poppping up on login..

mmmh, no idea, the stuff in your folders shouldn't make this thing pop up.
Go open up the activity monitor, show "all processes", sort by name
and look through it carefully, maybe you'll see something "suspicious"...

You could also take a look at the console if you see anything

Because this is related to a network setting, why not check your Network preferences (under System Preferences)? See if there's anything listed that shouldn't be.

i tried this. Airport shows nothing to turn off like a 3g card... and bluetooth is its own as well. super stumped! :(

It could be a little built-in app that came with whatever program you used to change the GUI with.

Maybe little snitch.

Candybar? maybe. I turned off little snitch and it still did it. :(

Are you able to remove it from the menu bar, by holding down the command key and dragging it out?

If you CAN do this, then you know it's an Apple app that's doing it.
If you can't, then you know it's a third-party app.

yes it can be removed like that..so its an apple app... now i went thru every system preference looking for a menubar checkbox and no luck for this particular icon..

thanks for the help guys, MUCH APPRECIATED.

Did you upgrade from 10.5 (no clean install) ?
Was this icon there on your old system or did it pop up right
after the 10.6 upgrade ?

Last idea I can think of:

Go into System Preferences, into the Network settings. Click the "+", as if you were adding a new type of connection. A drop-down pane will appear. See if there's any connections in there that aren't familiar looking.

One of the connections may have a checkbox to disable this.

Thank you!! This was driving me nuts!!!

Turns out Bluetooth DUN was present, which I do not use. Apparently when I installed Snow Leopard, it installed my bluetooth phone as a DUN. It keeps trying to initialize when in reality, my phone wont let it.

I deleted the Bluetooth DUN from the cellphone bluetooth preferences and its not longer present now!
Thanks again! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Glad to hear it worked! I knew it had to be somewhere in there.

yea it was strange cause it doesnt show where its coming from.. it was deep within the bluetooth menu. Even then it didnt show a menubar icon checkbox.. i just deleted the DUN and it dissapeared.
