15" or 17" PB?

The price difference of the model I'm about to configure only has 60~ dollars difference between 15" and 17" which one?

if you want to be really portable: get the 15"
if you need a real desktop replacement and like one of my clients you only move it from the office to home and back: get the 17" if its only a difference of 60 ;-)

I know now that I have my G5 I would settle for a 12" as extra, my brother has the 12" rev A and its a dream, great screen, good perfomance and superportable 🙂

For $60 I'd go for the 17" PowerBook.

The extra 160 horizontal and 46 vertical pixels make a big difference. The higher resolution is way nicer to look at. You'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Right now I'm using my 12" PowerBook in clamshell mode, connected to a 21" CRT set to 1920x1440 @ 75Hz. Why? Because 2048x1536 runs at 60Hz. Anyway I say that because I'm biased towards higher resolutions.

It comes down to portability. I got the 15" for that reason. I found the 17" screen to be amazing, especially for movies and games, but i prefer the 15" because it truly is a perfect balance between the 12" and 17". 17" is portable but i wouldn't bring it everwhere i go, because, well, it is a little on the bigger side. This is something you are going to have to decide on your own.

have you gone and seen both machines in the flesh? i think that's the only way to really decide, since the specs for both are almost the same (other than screen res, weight).

i got the 15" (same spec as yours) because i thought the 17" was too big, but maybe next year i'll go the huge screen 🙂

Tough decision.

I have the 15 PB. Love it. However, sometimes I wish that I had the extra screen real estate of the 17 inch.

While the 17 PB has more screen real estate, it comes at a size and weight penalty. When you carry around your laptop, this becomes noticeable.

The more mobile you are, the more you will appreciate the smaller size and weight of the 15 PB.

Perhaps looking at how you will be using your 15 or 17 PB will give you insight as to what is better for you. Will you be using it as a desktop replacement, or augmentation? I would lean towards the 17 PB as a desktop replacement and towards the 15 PB as an augmentation to your desktop.

Depends on your actual use

I borrowed a friend's 17" for a day and used it - was very nice, but since I use my laptop on my lap...on the couch, car, wherever...I found it was too big and decided on the 15" and am very pleased. So if you will be using it on a desk, go 17", but if you will be using it elsewhere, go 15"

After owning a 17" for 18 months, I can say that it is plenty portable for my needs. The extra screen size is really helpful for my needs - most people are hindered by the price difference, if you can get the $$ that close - jump on the 17"!!! 😀

17 powerbook

WOW!!!!!!!!! That,s what I say, and people say about the 17 inch Powerbook. I take it to work, and my gigs at night, with no problems at all. I have a zero halliburton gun metal case that keeps it in great shape. I think this 17 Powerbook is the best notebook/laptop ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!! (get one)

I wrestled with this issue for ages as well... and am very glad I went for the 17"!

I have three mates with 15" PB - and they would love a 17" if they had their time over again...

comes down to individual preferences... both are great machines... but I for one am very glad I went for the 17"

17" all the way... you wont regret it.. i have owned the 1.33GHZ and the 1.5GHZ and its portable, especially if you get a BELKIN NB bag, its basically like a wetsuit sleeve for the PB that is really slim line and small and is easy to carry around or slip into a larger bag.

i use mine with an icurve as well and it makes it soo good to use with a wireless mouse... much better for my neck and back too!


for $60 i wouldnt even think twice.... 17" all the way!
