Hi, I believe I have found a bug or incompatibility between iTunes and iPod software regarding the use of a filter in a smart playlist.

Here's the difference:

  • in iTunes, if you want to select tracks where the Album tag is empty, then the filter must be Album = "" (empty field), something else does not work.
  • on the iPod, if you want to select tracks where the Album tag is empty, then the filter in iTunes (copied to the iPod) must be Album = "Unknown Album", something else does not work.

Thus it seems that what works for iTunes does not work on the iPod and vice versa. Therefore, if you want to filter on a tag being empty such as Album, you have to explicitely combine both requirements in an OR-relationship, like so:

I hope this makes sense and is useful.

Bye
