7D + 580EX II or 600EX-RT

I just don't get it, patricianly because I haven't used flash much, since i don't own one..
I've read lots about the 600EX-RT having limitations on pre 2012 bodies so what are these? are there things that it won't do on a 7D that a 580EX II will?

and what would a feature comparison table look like on a pre 2012 body?

The only non pre 2012 body is 5dmk3 1dx 650D

I think you wont have any limitations. the 600EXRT is a great flash. Tried it out but went with a 2nd hand 580 EXII since i didnt need/want/ it and cant afford the 600

The 600 is in all manners superior to the 580 DX. I have two of each and find the 600 more powerful, easier to use, and more weatherproof.
