Now that the Mac Pros have been out for more than 6 months with a 3.2GHz being the highest, do you guys think its officially over priced at this point?

I want a Mac Pro but the 2.26GHz clock speed is a little too skimpy for me and I just cant shake that out of my mind.

The 2.66GHz 8 core is the model that I want but its in the $4600 department (after student discount).

Anyway I'm just going to wait until Sept to see if Apple will do a free speed bump and hoping that the 2.66GHz 8 core model will be the new low end 8 core model for $3299.

Gee, I thought I saw a thread or two about this already...

.

Say what! Where do you see that on the Apple Store?
  • Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
  • Two 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon [Add $1,400.00]
  • Two 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon [Add $2,600.00]

I think what he was going for was...

now with a 3.2 Ghz chip available from intel... etc.

OK! I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but it could have been interpreted 2 different way. Thanks for explaining the other way.

I'm hoping for a silent update after Septembers announcement. Just shifting models, highest the new 3.2 and the lowest 2.66.

Just my thought though.

Mac Pro history shows that this might happen, but that won't.

I have a skimpy 2.26GHz 8 core model and you have no idea what you're missing out on. Stop looking at the damn numbers. If you can afford it, get it, if not get something cheaper. Those of us who have this computer aren't really complaining about inadequate power. :D

I don't know what you need when it comes to computing power, but I seriously doubt you'll even make your computer sweat, even if you buy this little skimpy model.

More like, if you have to ask whether it's overpriced and you don't already own a mac pro or understand why it's more expensive than a Core i7 PC, it's not for you.
