I'm getting an 8 gb ipod touch for xmas. How much space do I actually have for my own media? I'd like to put a few movies (around 700 kb each), a few hundred songs, 100 or so pics and 3 or 4 apps. Do you think im pushing it for the 8 gb?

Also, how much bigger is the 16 compared to the 8, physically speaking?

on my 8 gb pod i've got several movie clips, a few phots, loads and loads of apps and around 1000 songs, and still got a reasonable amount of space left.

i never keep media (songs, movies, phots etc) on my pod permanently. they're permanent in itunes and i update and change my ipod when ever the mood takes me.

Running out of space quickly

I just got my 8gb 2G Touch. I only loaded the 431 song that are rated 5 Star. then I downloaded a bunch of Free Apps, and last evening I downloaded the "10th Wonder" (Heros) podcasts.

I have just a little over 2 gbs left and I haven't loaded any photos or movies.

8GBs goes really fast!

I have a 16GB, and I'm certainly glad to have the extra room.

Apps take up unnoticeable amounts of space. I have 39 Apps on my iPod right now, and it's taking up 523.8 MB. You'll have to add A LOT to notice too much of a difference. Half a gig is significant, but I like having a ton of Apps on my device.

My 8GB consist of, 100 or so photos, 4 pages of apps :)o), 10 simpson episodes (about 20mins each) and 670 songs, and i have alot of space left.

I hate these kind of threads.
It's all what YOU want.
Thing about this.
Do you really want to take the chance of running out of space?
I actually think you will.
Go with the 16GB.
I have it and it's treated me very well.
There is no physical difference (other than interior) between the 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB.
And no, the 8GB is not faster than the 16GB.
All 2G iPod touch's run at the same speed.
They are faster or slower depending on how many apps you have and if you have Safari running a heavily coded page.
