Hello,

I was just looking at Apple’s compare iPhone page. Specifically comparing my 8 Plus to the regular 12. I just assumed that the new camera system would be superior but the 8 Plus has a Telephoto lens which the 12 does not have. Does that mean you cannot zoom in with the 12? Their web site only mentions a zoom out. I’m no photographer but this seems like a big loss. Am I missing something?

Thank,
mario

The main lease has upgraded significantly since then, as has the selfie camera, camera software + you have an ultra wide lense. You are indeed missing the telephoto lense so if that’s a deal breaker you could consider the 12 pro.

Theres only digital zoom which will deteriorate the image. Up to you, some people prefer the ultra wide angle than the telephoto. I honestly dont use it enough on my 8+, unless I need to take pictures of documents.

I considered the loss of the telephone an issue when I went from the 7+ to the 11. Being able to easily zoom 2X for pet pictures mainly.

So I went with the 12 Pro this year vs the 12 Mini for the camera and better battery life.

Inferior?.... Umm no. The camera on the iPhone 8 Plus isn't even in the same realm as the camera on the iPhone 12. Yes it has an ultra wide instead of the telephoto but that is just a different lens. If you must have a telephoto lens and really care about picture quality get the 12 Pro. Do not the iPhone 8 Plus unless you're really on a tight budget and must have the telephoto lens for close ups. While I'm not trying to say the iPhone 8 camera is junk because it's not, it is several generations behind the iPhone 12. Just my two cents
