Hi all,

I’m trying to find a compatible 802.11n PCMCIA card for my 15 inch PowerBook G4. This has proved slightly trickier than I was expecting - I’ve purchased this card, but finding OS X drivers is a challenge.

I was hoping someone had already found a workable solution, either with a similar card, or via a different route.

I did try buying a cheap USB 802.11n dongle too - no joy, I may as well have popped a Lego brick in the USB port.

I think I was a little too optimistic about how ‘plug n play’ this hardware would be.

If anyone has any pointers I’d be very grateful.

I’ve not tested the WPC300N, but I use the WPC600N in my 17-inch PowerBook G4, which due to the aforementioned BCM4321 chip within, is treated as device-native by OS X (and, thus, sees the WPC600N as an AirPort wifi device). The WPC300N v1 uses the same BCM4321 chip (hopefully the one you posted isn’t v2, which uses a completely different, non-Broadcom chipset).

Sadly mine *is* the v2, which is why it is now being used as a bookmark.

I’m v hopeful about the Netgear card though, for those next generation download speeds of 68k.news 🤓

you can use a stock Siemens Gigabyte Pc Card 54 in any PowerBook with a PC Card slot
under Tiger and upwards it will be recognized natively as a AirPort Extreme with WEP2 encryption capabiliy on bootup..I used those cards for ages, they are plentiful on the Bay and cheap.
