Surely won't be too long before we see this. Installing the new apps is going to start eating up space on the 32GB model leaving less space for music.

Any guesses as to when this might be??????

How much space do the average apps take up? I just ordered an 8GB, and sold my 80GB classic, because I heard apps do not take up much space. I just need about 3-4GB for music then rest for apps.

You're for the most part correct, they do not take up a whole lot of space. From what I've seen, the average App will take up around 0.1-15.0 MB of space on your touch/iPhone. Their are many apps, however, that are much larger such as games (around 100 MB) and other service apps like language programs that are also larger.

And as for the "80 GB" touch, that's extremely unlikely for even the next year. 64 GB for a flash drive has not even been brought up in any rumors for a storage upgrade, simply for the fact that it is still far to expensive to be profitable for Apple.

I have exactly 100 apps, the largest of which is 50MB, and the smallest is 47KB. All 100 total up at 200MB, so I would say on average, an app is 500KB (1/2MB).

I challenge you to find me a game, nay, ANY APP that is close to 100MB.

I am fairly certain that the largest app as of now is 58MB (Cro-Mag Rally), and I think that is only because of all the video scenes.

Texas Hold'em 127.9 MB

For the original poster, i don't see this happening for a few years ( i could be wrong though). And apps take up like a Mb each (some can take more, but the biggest i have is 7 Mb!

Thanks Nickelz92 and pismodude2 for the help. Thanks for clarifying the size of stuff. I was afraid for a moment 8GB wasn't going to be enough, but like I said I only have 3-4GB music at most that is why I sold my iPod classic.

umm there's never ever ever ever going to be an 80GB iPod touch. The storage capacities for flash memory goes in powers of two. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512...

Yeah, like what tuffluffjimmy said, there's never ever ever ever going to be an 80GB iPod touch. The storage capacities for flash memory goes in powers of two. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512... etc so right now we have an 8, 16 & 32GB iPod Touch, but the next size would be 64GB & then maybe even 128GB.

BUT, with the expensive price of flash memory right now, especially that size, that is not a viable option for Apple. Maybe with flash memory prices dropping constantly we will see larger capacity iPods (Even 256GB flash-based iPod Classics! :p )

But, yeah, the biggest app, Texas HoldEm, is ~130MB, but the rest of them are under about 70MB, averaging around 1 or 2MB each, so you will have no worries in running out of space (I hope!).

Personally, I only have a music library of 300 64Kbps AAC (Purchased ones are either 128 or 256Kbps) (about 1.2GB) of music, I listen to 5 weekly podcasts, but I have NOTHING else (No movies, etc), so space for apps (which is quickly approaching the amount of space my music needs) is now worry for me on my 8GB Touch.

Hope I helped.
