I'm about to jump in on an iMac from Mac Connection as they seem to offer the sweetest deal so far, but it does entail a rebate.

I have never shopped at Mac Connection so just kind of want to get some opinions from the community. Good, bad, whatever.

On the record, I have never had any major problems with rebates too. I'm good at keeping on top of that and I've never had a rebate not be honored. Though, theres always a first time for everything lol. Anyway, that said, can anyone tell me the rebate process for Mac Connection? Can it be all done via online or do I have to snail mail it in? Also, do I have to cut out the UPC bar code or anything like that?

Thanks for anyone's help on this.

MacConnection goes a long, LONG way back (I remember their two-page ads in MacWorld from back around 1988!). They used to be one of the BEST places to buy from, hands down. But that was then, this is now....

I remember them having a run-in with the state of Massachusetts about charging sales tax on items shipped there (had something to do with Mass. claiming "nexus" that MacConnection's booth at the MacWorld Expo in Boston established such). That year they pulled out of the expo - a big empty space where their booth would have been.

I _believe_ that they now charge sales tax on items shipped to some (but not all) states for this reason. You have to dig through their website and read the fine print. Be aware of this BEFORE you order from them.

I purchased my MacPro from them last spring. No complaints with my purchase.

although i have no physical backing for this, i wouldnt go anywhere else apart from the apple store... but hey, thats just me

Mac Connection and PC Connection used to be the best. I used to order lots of stuff from them back when I was working for a small company and had to buy stuff. I think they changed hands or just slipped from there.

Well I added the item in my basket, and got to the end of the checkout process and tax was zero for me (in California)...Any company who decides to charge tax POST purchase should face immediate death.

I definitely feel safest from purchasing directly from Apple, and every purchase I've ever made from them has been perfect, but now I'm looking at Amazon. Cheap, no tax, no shipping...It's too good so I think might go for this. I'm a huge Amazon customer and I've also always had great customer service from them, but this will be my largest purchase, and my first computer purchase if I go with them...

The reason why I was considering Mac Connection is that they have the cheapest price, after a mail in $70 rebate, but this means I'll need to send that out before christmas, and I think getting the rebate means canceling out any privileges I might have for gift receipt holiday returns/exchanges. I could open the imac and test it out first, but i'd rather not.

In the end, all this sounds too complicated and too risky to go with Mac Connection. And thanks to the economy, I think the only computer I would purchase from Apple these days would be a Mac Pro for its CTO options.

PC Connection was great a few years ago. I bought everything there and my sales rep always gave me great deals and awesome savings on shipping. The he told me they were gonna start charging tax, I slowly began seeking other sources. I get all my stuff from now from amazon, newegg, zipzoomfly, OWC and cyberguys.

macconnection will hose you

I purchased a sony 40EX700 from macconnection 2 weeks ago on their web site for $1260...2 weeks later the price is $900 on this same site for the same TV. They won't honor the new price. I can return it, but for a 40% restock fee ($504). I can see not honoring the new price if it was a few months back....but 2 weeks? come on. don't do business with this company...you will get screwed!
