I would like to start this thread since I havn't seem to find one yet.
I guess it would be useful to discuss about how Windows works on the new iMac 21" and 27" models.

Please insert the model / windows version in your post!! (duo/quad, w98,wv,w7)

List of current known problems:
- Black Screen (duo/w7)

I'll post a few findings myself here too:

Thanks!

Black screen problem: duo/windows7
I DON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM MYSELF, BUT TRYING TO GET IT FIXED
After several enlightening hours spent exploring the forum, I didn't find a solution to my problem, so let's start a new topic explaining my situation :

I've had a 20" iMac for 2 years with a Dual Boot Mac OS X / Windows XP, and was very happy with it.
I bought a few days ago the new 27" iMac as I couldn't resist the huge beautiful screen. But I still need Windows for several activities. So I thought about installing Windows 7.
Being a student, I took advantage of this offer : Microsoft Student - Windows 7 .

Problem : It doesn't gives an install disk, but only a download of an update that allows to "upgrade" Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7.
So it seemed to me I had no choice but to install Win XP or Vista with Bootcamp, and then upgrade it to Windows 7.

I have legal versions of Windows XP, so I installed it on the iMac with Bootcamp. All went fine. Then I downloaded the upgrade, and the upgrade assistant to Windows 7, with no worries. But when I started the Windows 7 install, the following happened : The first steps went fine (Copy of Windows files, Decompression of Windows files, Install of fonctions, Install of updates), but at the last step called End of install, I just had a black screen.

I let it run for a while, nothing happened. So I rebooted, and after the Windows logo I had a black screen again.

I cannot start the safe mode with F8 because the install has not been completed. And still with F8, starting in a low resolution doesn't help.

So at this point I'm a little lost, and would be very grateful of any idea that could help making things advance. Thanks

kroeks -- I just tried to do an install and got the black screen at the same place you did. Holding the power button down did nothing -- to reboot I had to unplug the iMac. Did you have to do that?

This is the 3.06 27" iMac and we were using a retail copy of Win7 DVD.

Hi there,

I don't have the problem myself! I'm just collecting them in this topic so we can get solutions for it! Sorry, forgot to put this in the tagline.

thanks for your input and I'll let you in this topic when i've found a solution :)

I' having an iMac core i7 and getting problems installing xp
(in text mode it doesn't reboot on its own, so i have to wait some time and reboot it manually)
Also when changing Sound Preferences the first time in xp and then starting a game resulted in errors.

Anyone else getting these errors? (specially the first one)

Well each time my machine reboots the XP installer starts over (Blue screen version) as if I didn't let it install files from the previous install.

Worked fine on my older iMac... but this new i5 is just not taking it

Does your iMac reboot on its own or do you reboot it manually?

I also experienced problems with selecting the os on boot via "alternative" key when having several external hdd's connected which have power management on their own (they shutdown on idle no matter what system or system state)
