I have purposely ignored laptop locks a I'm afraid of a thief yanking on my PB trying to rip it free then just dropping it when they realise it wont come free. I would rather have a new laptop from the insurance company (despite premium increases) than keep my current one but all smashed up as long as my data is backed up.

I have the Kensington, and like it, but don't like the fact you have to keep track of the keys. The Targus is nice since it's a combination lock. Either one should work about the same in terms of securing the laptop.

Of course, the security is only as good as the placement of the strap. Running it around a table leg is bad, since they could just lift up the table. Make sure that it is secured to a reasonably immovable object.
