Hi!

Just got a new 15 MacBook Pro and thinking of getting an extra 85W magsafe power adapter.

Apple.com shows the item code for the 85W as MC556LL/B and I see many on-line vendors selling MC556LL/A at a good price compared to the B model.

What's the difference? Will a new 2011 MacBoo Pro work fine with the MC556LL/A or do I definitely need MC556LL/B.

Thanks in advance.

Bueller?

I was wondering the same thing...what is the diff between the "/A" and "/B"???

Not exactly sure, but it may have to do with the ends on each of the magsafes. In 2010, all the magsafe chargers got a new design on the end that plugs into the laptops.

The new ones are the ones you see everywhere at the Apple store, in which they are the L-shaped silver adapters, whereas the older ones were the ones with the square white adapter. Both work the same, just different design.

This is totally a guess. I could definitely be wrong on this.

They are essentially the same, but the cheaper option typically doesn't come with the ac extension cable. Be wary of sites claiming to offer the cheaper version with the ac cable.

Ah ha...I knew there had to be a catch...follow up questions:
1.) Is this "/B" one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004L6MLPQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A2CMNFBIB4O0RD still an official Apple product?
2.) Will the extension cable from Apple (one that came with my lappy) attach to this "/B" item?

Thanks!

1) I have no doubt that it's an official Apple product. What I don't know is how the resellers are getting power adapters without the ac extension. Perhaps they are used/refurbished? Who knows.
2) For sure
